The music/sound ministry of St. Andrew the Apostle strives to provide musical leadership which fosters “full, conscious and active participation” of the assembly, which assists the assembly to “express the gift of faith within them”, and which “nourishes and strengthens their interior commitment of faith.”

Sound Technician Responsibilities

  • Must be trained under senior sound technician until deemed competent.  Training consists of 3-6 months of on-the-job learning depending on aptitude/experience.
  • Must attend Diocesan Safe Environment Training Session annually.
  • Highly encouraged to attend Formation classes at St. Andrew the Apostle.
  • Arrives on time for set-up prior to liturgy:  4PM for Saturday mass; one half hour before Sunday morning masses, weddings, and funerals; and 4:30PM for teen mass.
  • Sets up microphones, etc. for all singers and instrumentalists.
  • Saturday technician must change batteries in the following microphones:  wireless handheld in podium and 3 lavaliere mics (deacon, pastor, associate pastor.)
  • Runs the mixing board during rehearsal and liturgy.  Does not leave the church building during a liturgy; walks around the church periodically during the mass to check for balance, etc.  Pays attention to the mass:  stands when congregation stands, etc.
  • Assists in the set-up of equipment needed for the next liturgy OR picks up all cords, stands, mics, etc. and return them to the equipment room if there is no mass following.  Turns off sound system power and closes sound booth whenever there is no mass following.
  • Allows no one besides staff personnel in the sound booth.

Subbing Policy

  • If you need a sub, you must put it in writing and give it to me OR leave me a voicemail message at least 10 days in advance. I will then find you a sub. (If my voicemail ever says I am out of town or on vacation, call Carol Flood.) ·
  • If you choose to ignore this policy and trade with someone on your own, you are then responsible for that person showing up and being on time. If your sub does not show up to work or is late, you will be held accountable. ·
  • The ONLY time you should be calling someone to sub for you at the “last minute” is when you are sick. If you are sick, call all the other sound techs to see if anyone can work for you. Then leave me a message and tell me what you’ve found out. Chances are you will not be able to reach me in person, but I want you to leave me a message anyway, telling me what efforts you’ve made.
